Mono Printing with Cut Paper

Used with Level 2 Art to begin a unit on printmaking. Students created their own designs for a mono print using cut watercolor paper, ink, and acrylic plates.

    -Uses artist name "Swoon" for working
    - Known for creating immersive installations, community based projects and public artworks
    -One of the first female street artists to gain international recognition
    - Pieces are often a form of activism, raising awareness of community & cultural issues 
    - Often uses wheat paste as her technique for installing large drawings or prints

    -Born in Nairobi, Kenya

    -Moved to New York City for Art School, and now lives in Brooklyn

    -Best known for collages that our other worldly landscapes and hybrid figures

    - Also creates paintings, prints, sculptures and performance art pieces

Quick Bio:

-She lived and worked in D.C. and attended Howard University

-She was a junior high school teacher

-She taught while painting part-time

-after retiring she explored abstraction 

-at the age of 75 she debuted her abstracted work in an exhibition at Howard

-an important role model for older artists and African Americans

*first African American to have a solo exhibit at the Whitney Museum
